The ZenRoot studio
— the studio —

A studio,
quietly built.

ZenRoot was opened in 2018 by Maya Tan, a longtime practitioner who wanted a small, unhurried place where the practice could happen without trends or noise. The studio she built is exactly that — wood floors, soft light, ample space, no logo merch.

"We don't sell a workout. We hold a space — and a practice — where you can come back to yourself, again and again."

— Maya Tan, Founder & Senior Teacher

— since 2018 —

Seven years
on the mat.

2018

Maya opens ZenRoot in a converted carriage house with one room, fifteen mats, and a single weekly class.

2020

Studio doubles in size; second teacher joins. Outdoor garden practice space added during the summer months.

2022

Senior teachers Kavitha and Daniel join. We launch our seasonal teacher-training intensives.

2025

A team of seven senior teachers, weekly classes for new mothers, seniors, and complete beginners.

— the practice —

Three
quiet pillars.

i

Breath

The thread that stitches every practice together. We move with the breath, not against it. We watch the breath as much as we watch the body.

ii

Body

The body has its own intelligence. We listen to it, work with it, and refuse to override it. Alignment over ambition.

iii

Mind

The practice is not on the mat — it is everywhere we go after. We treat the mat as the laboratory for the rest of the day.

— our teachers —

Senior teachers.
Lifelong students.

Every ZenRoot teacher has at least 500 hours of certified training and an unbroken personal practice. We hire teachers we'd want to learn from — and many of us still do, from each other, every week.

Our team currently includes seven senior teachers with backgrounds in Iyengar, Ashtanga, Yin, Vinyasa, and somatic movement.

Some kind words.

I've practiced in studios around the world. ZenRoot is the only one I've stayed at for four years and counting. Something here is genuinely different.

Anita R.

I started at ZenRoot as a complete beginner. Two years later, the practice has changed how I sleep, how I work, how I am with my children.
